Carl de Keyzer

Cuba, La Lucha

Carl De Keyzer (Kortrijk, 1958) studied photography at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Ghent, Belgium. Next to working as a photography teacher he started in 1982 as co-founder of a gallery focussed on photography called XYZ. In the same year he published his first book called Oogspanning. In 1990 he was nominated for the Magnum Photo Agency, he became an associated member in 1992 and a full member in 1994.

De Keyzer has exhibited his work in many galleries and musea and has received several awards, including the Book Award from Les Rencontres d’Arles, the W. Eugene Smith Award in 1990 and the Kodak Award in 1992. Major subjects in his work have included the collapse of the Soviet Union and India. His most recent project is called Cuba La Lucha.
