The Hypermediated Selfie Construction
For BredaPhoto, Lennert Deprettere (Belgium, 1973) built a new version of his installation The Hypermediated Selfie Construction (2017), part of the ongoing The Selfie Project. In multiple installations Deprettere experiments with technological innovations and their risks. ‘Digital progress is not a straight path to technological perfection’, he says. ‘Technology makes life more comfortable, but we can’t oversee the long term effects.’
This room challenges visitors to influence a machine made of old materials and modern sensors and microprocessors. How far are you willing to go?’
Deprettere has worked in commercial photography, but now focuses mainly on personal projects. He initiated The Resistor Collective in which he collaborates with people who have different technological expertise. He is also a lecturer and head of department at Luca School of Arts in Brussels.
