During the seven weeks of the festival more than 3,500 children from groups 7 and 8 from Breda and surrounding municipalities visit the photo festival. Trained tour guides who work in or have an affinity with education, art and culture give a guided tour especially for children. It leads past three exhibitions in Breda Botanique, exhibitions in the Chassepark and also past the ‘open-air museum’, The Infinity Path. In preparation, the participating schools received a teaching letter on the basis of which they discussed together BredaPhoto Festival, the theme of this edition and made a collage that they bring to the festival. The children get an impression of the photo festival and are challenged with playful assignments to look beyond their first glance.
For secondary education, BredaPhoto developed a special program aimed at secondary schools and school communities in Breda and surroundings and at MBOs with a photography or art profile. A cycle of 4 lessons (in class) was developed for 2018. Within the lessons there is room for active and receptive work, and again the project is concluded with a competition with an exhibition.
Various vocational training courses in Breda are involved in the development of the festival. De Rooi Pannen organizes the campsite at The Meetup, and students of CMD – AVANS looked into the possibilities of developing a virtual shell. Work is currently underway on a plan for an education cross lab or ‘Experience Spot’ where during the festival, from different AVANS, NHTV and Fontys programs, we work together on projects that relate to the theme and/or photography.
