Erien Withouck

Fascinated by the duality between words and imagery, for the project We’re all living on a giant’s solar model of the universe, Withouck delved into Belgian and Thai national archives, for which she translated words into different languages. This revealed new definitions, while others became lost in translation. The words became homonyms the same way found images are redefined when placed in a new context.

Found imagery along with images from her own personal archive became the building blocks for this project, which will take the form of a newspaper. When browsing through it, the viewer is reading carefully selected histories which are then re-interpreted, creating a new past.
